Aquamarine is linked to calm, peaceful qualities-things like serenity, tranquillity and mental clarity. It's name come from Latin (aqua marinus = "water of the sea"), which reflects its soft blue colour and ocean-like feel. 

Historically people believed it had protective and calming powers. Sailors even carried it as a talisman for safe journeys at sea. Beyond that, it's also connected to emotional balance, courage, hope and a sense of youthful energy.
